Creating a refreshed appearance that still look and feels like you are our speciality. Whether you’ve come across this blog at the beginning or conclusion of your anti-wrinkle research phase, we hope to shed some light on how this minimally invasive procedure work and how it can be the beginning of a more confident you.

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are like their name suggests, injections that primarily address the prevention of fine lines and wrinkles. Formulated from a natural, purified protein, anti-wrinkle injections can be used to smooth out frown lines, laughter lines around the eyes and forehead creases.

How do they work?

Following your consultation, your injector will map out where you will most benefit from anti-wrinkle injections. The anti-wrinkle formula is injected into the junction between your nerve and muscle cells known as the neuromuscular junction. When this is administered, it blocks the messages your nerve would usually signal to your muscle (to contract) and causes them to fully relax. This is the process of softening the appearance of wrinkles, whilst preventing the formation of future ones.

A simple, yet very effective anti-wrinkle solution, the power of anti-wrinkle injections is the skill of the injector themselves. When researching the best anti-wrinkle treatments in Melbourne, it’s important to consider factors other than price. Take note of your injector’s experience, the products they’re administering and their knowledge of muscle anatomy.

How long do they last?

Like any first-time treatment, you’ll begin your anti-wrinkle journey with a thorough consultation. This will determine where your anti-wrinkle injections will be administered and their dosage.

Following your treatment, it generally takes three to ten days post-treatment to fully develop and see the full effects of your injections. Following this, your results can last up to six months. This is dependent on your age, lifestyle and how your body responds to the treatment.

Following your initial treatment, your re-treatments may require less dosage. Staying hydrated, avoiding excessive sun exposure and reframing from activities such as smoking will extend the life of your anti-wrinkle injections.

Your anti-wrinkle injections may be combined with other therapies and at-home skincare to achieve your individual goals. This will be discussed during your consultation.

How to prepare?

Anti-wrinkle injections are a go-to for many clients wanting to prevent premature ageing not only thanks to their results but their convenience too! Anti-wrinkle injections require minimal pre and post-treatment care and allow you to continue your day as usual soon after.

Seven days prior to your appointment, we request that you avoid chemical peels and skin needling treatments. It is crucial that you advise your injector of all medications you are currently taking, in particular blood thinning medications.

What to expect after your first appointment?

Following your first appointment, you’ll be able to return to your usual activities and apply makeup if you wish. We advise to avoid exercise for 24 hours post-treatment and avoid any activities like facial massages.

After your first treatment, keep that face moving! Act as usual, performing the same facial movements such as laughing, frowning and smiling to assist the injected protein absorb further into your neuromuscular junction.

Depending on the treatment area and your response to the injections, you may experience some mild swelling or tenderness in the treatment area, but this will soon subside and can be eased with paracetamol.

Like any skin treatment, SPF is your BFF. Avoid excessive sun exposure and apply adequate sun protection throughout your day.

When should you reschedule your next appointment?

We’re often asked when it’s time to book your next anti-wrinkle injection appointment and the answer is really dependent on your individual response to the treatment. Your body may metabolise the protein quicker or slower than others so your time in between appointments will vary.

Luckily, it’s simple to tell when it may be time to give us a call. When your areas of concern start to reveal the freedom of movement they once had, it’s a sign that the injection is coming to the end of its course.
