Mesotherapy involves the injection of small amounts of vitamins, minerals and other medications placed just under the surface of the skin.

It is used for the treatment of a wide variety of skin conditions including aging and dry skin, hyper-pigmentation, scarring and skin rejuvenation.

What is platelet rich plasma & how does it work?

PRP is an increased concentration of autologous platelets suspended in a small amount of plasma after centrifugation.

Blood consists of approximately 93% red blood cells (RBC), 1% white blood cells (WBC) and 6% platelets, all suspended in plasma.

In platelet-rich plasma, the RBC count is lowered to 5, as they are less useful in the healing process, while the platelet count is increased to 94%.

PRP effects soft tissue healing via growth factors released after platelet degranulation. These growth factors initiate and enhance physiological processes that contribute to tissue recovery and healing after injury.

Growth-factor molecules associated with platelets include:

  • Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)

  • Transforming growth-factor-beta (TGF-b)

  • Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)

  • Epidermal growth factor (EGF)

  • Fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2)

  • Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)

These growth factors aid healing by:

  • Attracting undifferentiated stem cells into the newly formed matrix and triggering cell division

  • Suppressing cytokine release and limiting inflammation

  • Attracting macrophages to improve tissue healing and regeneration

  • Promoting new capillary growth (new blood vessel formation), and accelerating epithelialisation

What's involved & what can i expect post treatment?

Following a thorough consultation, a small sample of blood is obtained. The blood is then placed into a centrifuge and spun at high speed in order to isolate a layer of platelet-rich plasma, also known as "liquid gold".

There are two ways to use your PRP:

1. We can inject the concentrated plasma directly into areas of aged or damaged skin to utilise your body’s repair system and promote the growth of new tissue OR;

2. We can combine PRP with skin needling (commonly referred to as a "Vampire Facial"). Skin Needling involves the use of a handheld device with tiny microneedles oscillating at high speed to gently pierce the skin. The microneedles create small puncture channels to promote rejuvenation. When combined with skin needling, the PRP is applied directly into the micro wounds, enhancing the results and reducing the recovery time of a regular skin needling treatment.

Each treatment takes between 60 and 90 minutes.

Immediately after treatment, your skin may be red, warm and mildly swollen. Your skin may appear sunburned for 3-5 days, and you may experience minor flaking and dryness.

If the PRP has been injected directly into your skin, you may experience mild bruising.

Sunscreen and makeup can be applied 2-4 hours post-treatment. A quality SPF 30+ sunscreen must be worn for a minimum of 14 days post-procedure, to prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Skin plumping results will be visible immediately, and skin remodelling will continue to improve over the following 1-2 sessions.

How many sessions will i need?

The number of treatments required varies from person to person. You'll be provided with a tailored treatment plan during your complimentary consultation.

Results show that when PRP is applied by superficial or deep dermal injection, the skin texture, tone and firmness can improve within three weeks with ongoing improvements over the next few months. A series of 3 treatments every 4 - 6 weeks is recommended for best results.

What areas & conditions can be treated?

PRP and skin needling can be combined and used on the face, neck, chest, decolletage, stomach or back of the hands to treat conditions including:

  • Rough or inconsistent skin texture

  • Sun damage

  • Small scars

  • Fine wrinkles and signs of ageing

  • Broken capillaries

  • Enlarged pores

  • Pigmentation

  • Stretch marks

Am i a suitable candidate for platelet rich plasma therapy?

The following medical conditions are a contraindication for the use of PRP:

  • Critical thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)

  • Hypofibrinogenaemia

  • Haemodynamic instability (collapse)

  • Sepsis (infection)

  • Acute and chronic infections

  • Chronic liver disease

  • Anti-coagulation therapy (including Warfarin, Dabigatran, Heparin)
